About the treatment

IPL delivers intense flashes of broad-spectrum light that pigment and visible vessels absorb, breaking them down so your body can clear them. Over a short series, tone looks more even, sun spots fade, and diffuse redness calms.

It is the workhorse treatment for sun-lived Georgia skin: quick, effective, and easy to maintain annually.

How IPL works

A photofacial floods the skin with calibrated light that pigment and broken capillaries absorb, clearing sun damage and redness the surrounding skin never feels.

  1. ConsultVisia imaging at your free consultation reveals UV damage below the surface, so we treat what is coming as well as what shows.
  2. TreatLight pulses pass over the skin with cooling between them. A warm-snap sensation, about 30 minutes.
  3. FlakeSpots darken to a coffee-ground look for several days, then flake away. Redness fades within hours to a day.
  4. SeriesMost guests see their best result from a series of 2–3 sessions a month apart, then an annual refresher.

Why we love it

Sun damage's exit

Brown spots, freckling, and redness respond in a way skincare alone never matches.

Quick and tolerable

No numbing, minimal downtime: the flake-away is the whole recovery.

Data-driven

Your Visia scan shows the pigment beneath the surface, so progress is measurable, not guesswork.

What to expect

Each session takes about 30 minutes and feels like warm snaps against the skin. Spots typically darken slightly, then flake away over 7–14 days. Redness fades within hours. Plan 3–5 sessions about a month apart for full correction.

Good to know

  • Best results on untanned skin. Schedule around sun exposure.
  • An annual maintenance session keeps results locked in.
  • Not all skin tones are IPL candidates; your consult confirms the right device for you.
  • Club members save 15% on treatments.

Prep & aftercare

Simple rules, big payoff: here is exactly how to protect your result. You will also get these in writing after your visit.

Before your visit+
  • Strictly avoid sun exposure and self-tanner for 2 weeks before your treatment.
  • No waxing, depilatories, electrolysis, or laser hair removal on the area for the week before.
  • Pause retinoids (Retin-A, tretinoin, retinol), AHAs/BHAs, benzoyl peroxide, and other exfoliating products for 3 days beforehand.
  • Tell your provider about any history of cold sores before treatment day.
  • Arrive with clean skin: no makeup or products.
Aftercare, hour by hour+

Right after

  • Expect the treated area to be red and feel like a sunburn. It can build over the first 24 hours, and that's normal.

First 24 hours

  • No cleansers, moisturizers, or SPF yet.
  • Cool water, cold compresses, and ice packs ease any discomfort.

After 24 hours

  • Resume gentle cleanser, gentle moisturizer, and SPF.

First 72 hours

  • Avoid sun, hot water, heavy sweating, and strenuous exercise. Heat and blood flow can irritate healing skin.
  • Minimizing sun for a full week maximizes your result.
  • No retinols, AHAs, or exfoliants until healing is complete, typically 5–7 days.

Frequently asked questions

What does an IPL photofacial do?+
Intense pulsed light targets pigment and redness (sun spots, age spots, rosacea flushing, and broken capillaries), evening out skin tone over a series of treatments.
What is the downtime?+
Treated spots often darken briefly and flake off within a week; redness settles within hours. Strict sun protection before and after is essential.
IPL or the Elluminate laser facial: which should I choose?+
They overlap: both treat pigment and redness. Your provider will recommend the right platform for your skin at a free consultation with Visia imaging.

“I was not looking forward to another series of uncomfortable laser treatments, to my face and neck which has been my experience over the last 20 years. Her bedside manner put me at ease immediately, and to my complete surprise, the procedure was painless!”

The Dermatology Difference

Physician medical direction

Every protocol operates under the medical direction of a board-certified dermatologist, not a franchise playbook.

Inside a dermatology practice

Our studios live inside real dermatology offices, with Mohs surgery and a dermatopathology lab behind the same walls.

Medical screening first

Medical-grade screening before any laser treatment, and a Visia analysis so recommendations start from data.

A physician in the building

If anything ever needs a doctor’s eye, one is down the hall, not on a phone line.
